- Protocol for the Presentation
The following is a general protocol that should be applied to a critical appraisal of the medical literature session (CAMeL Session). Use this protocol when you are presenting on rounds, in case-conferences or journal club. Adjust the length and intensity of the session appropriately.
- Define the question using the protocol described in Section II, Formulating the Question.
- Describe in detail the search technique you used to find the evidence, the search engine you used, or your choice of materials to answer the question.
- State the research objectives of the evidence that you found.
- Characterize the article itself by identifying:
- The source of the data: *primary (original) versus *secondary
- The research design: Descriptive, Case-Control, RCT, Review
- The journal type
- Authors
- Sites
- Patients
- A specific description of the methods, statistics, and protocol for the study
- End points
- Results
- Authors’ conclusions
- Assess the research methodology and validity of the report based upon the tools for critical appraisal, which have been provided in the guide for specific categories of articles.
- Briefly review any editorial comments and letters to the editor concerning the article you have selected.
