UCI SOM & Library Medical Resources
Once you have formulated your question, you must access the best resources to answer that question.
Fortunately, many excellent resources exist for this and our UCI Libraries are committed to gathering these
resources in an accessible and user-friendly format.
From the
Grunigen Medical Library's website (medical.lib.uci.edu),
you can access key information resources in Medicine, including databases and other useful links. These
include the Cochrane Collaboration, AccessMedicine, PubMed, UpToDate, MDConsult, and many others. The site
is easy to navigate and provides active links to many electronic and full-text resources licensed by the
Library. It is maintained and updated on a regular basis by library staff committed to medical informatics.
Linked at this site is
ANTPAC (antpac.lib.uci.edu), the online catalog of all
UCI books and journals, and
Melvyl (melvyl.cdlib.org), the online catalog of books and journals available UC System-wide.
ANTPAC and Melvyl will enable you to locate full-text journals as well as books in each of the medical disciplines. Evidence-based
health care sources can also be searched to guide you in the use of these resources in a variety of disciplines.
Listed under the
EBM Subject Guide (medical.lib.uci.edu/ebm.html)
are evidence-based medicine resources such as
Netting the Evidence: a ScHARR Introduction to Evidence-based Practice on the
Internet (http://www.shef.ac.uk/scharr/ir/netting/). It provides full text information from articles related to EBM, including step-by-step guides on how to
critically appraise articles pertaining to therapy, diagnosis, etiology and prognosis which can supplement
and expand upon the protocols found later in this document. The EBM Subject Guide also provides links to a large number of other EBM
Web resources, including
critical appraisals,
practice guidelines, and
tutorials.
