With the close of National Library Week, we would like to share the winners who participated in last week's contests!
How many books are in the Grunigen Medical Library? We received more than 200 guesses that ranged from 1,000 to 25 million, the answer is:

The Grunigen Medical Library will begin the installation of new carpet in all areas of the library on Monday April 21st. During this time some services may be disrupted and the library will be experiencing noise and dust. The installation of the carpet will begin on Monday April 21st and continue through May 4th.
The library will be closed Saturday April 26th.

The Grunigen Medical Library concludes its Spring 2008 Instructional Workshop series with three remaining classes:
Pubmed Basics:
Thursday, April 17th, 2008 11:00am-Noon
Instructor: Susan Lessick, MLS AHIP
This workshop provides basic instruction on how to search PubMed, including search techniques, limits, and display options. You will also learn about printing and emailing capabilities as well as availability of online full-text articles. PubMed covers the disciplines of dentistry, medicine, nursing, the health care system and pre-clinical sciences and veterinary medicine.

Advanced techniques in using PubMed are discussed in this workshop. Topics include combining searches, nested search strategies, when to use PubMed Clinical Queries and Systematic Reviews and how to save searches on PubMed for future re-runs. Pharmaceutical and Drug Resources:

This workshop will cover four key online pharmaceutical and drug resources available through the library: MDConsult, MedlinePlus, Micromedix, and Natural Standard. These resources provide essential drug descriptions, indications, contraindications and adverse reactions, and in addition provide current safety notices and FDA approvals. This session will assist users in becoming familiarized with and searching these extensive resources.

The new prototype of the Clinician’s Toolkit is now available on the Grunigen Medical Library's web site!
The Clinician’s Toolkit is a point-of-care resource that provides accurate and reliable information applicable to clinical practice. The closely reviewed authoritative sources are organized in a user friendly and easily accessible format. Various resources in the Clinician's Toolkit include:
-Convenient search engines for UpToDate, PubMed, and Google Scholar
-Selected point-of-care databases for decision support
-Drug information and formularies
-Algorithms/Calculators for clinical care
-Patient information/education in multiple languages
-Help with ICD-9 look-ups

Pharmacist's Letter is now available through our Antpac catalog!
Pharmacist's Letter provides information for pharmacists regarding new developments in drug therapy. The database consists of a monthly letter, charts, guidelines, patient handouts, and a rumor vs. truth section. Patrons can browse by various topics and subject listings.
Pharmacists receive concise updates and advice information. The Detail-Documents provide in-depth coverage answering many specific questions related to each topic.
