The Grunigen Medical Library offers instructional workshops in conducting online research, managing bibliographic citations, copyright issues in instruction and research, and more.

  • All workshops listed here are held at the Grunigen Medical Library in Building 22A located at the UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, CA (unless otherwise noted).
  • The workshops are free and open to all UCI faculty, staff, and students.
  • To register, click link under its description.
  • Space is limited and seats are given on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Title: How To Get Full-Text Articles
Description: This workshop is an introduction to finding full-text journal articles as quickly as possible. Topics covered will include finding articles from database searches (e.g., PubMed), from bibliographies, and with only partial information. Finding aids such as the Antpac Online Catalog and the PubMed Single Citation matcher will be demonstrated. Additional information will be presented on obtaining articles via interlibrary loans and transfers from the libraries on the Irvine Campus.

Title: Introduction to PubMed Basics
Description: This workshop provides basic instructions on how to search PubMed, including search techniques, limits, and display options.

Use UC E-Links to easily get access to full text articles.

Title: Endnote X6
Description: This workshop covers the basics of the bibliographic management tool EndNote X6, including how to save selected references in various formats for research papers or documents. You will also learn how to use the EndNote X5 tools to create bibliographies and references sources. The focus of this session is health sciences.

Title: Endnote vs. Mendeley
Description: The objective of this workshop is to provide a brief overview of the two reference management software programs, EndNote and Mendeley. We will demonstrate the use of these tools for collecting and managing bibliographic citations and compare and highlight individual strengths of both programs.
